Orange Art Gallery Wedding

Diane and Sam | A summertime Orange Art Gallery Wedding

Diane and Sam’s Orange Art Gallery wedding was nothing short of amazing. They opted for an intimate cocktail-style wedding with a small guest list, perfect for the venue size. This gave them the flexibility to craft a timeline that felt very relaxed throughout the whole day, and suited them perfectly as a couple.

The vendors involved in the day

Even the most intimate of ceremonies can use a team to help bring their dreams to life! Here are the incredible vendors involved in this wedding day who did just that:

An alternative to ceremony vows

Their wedding day started with Diane getting ready with some family and friends at her parents’ house. After a glass of champagne, we drove over to Ottawa’s Dominium Arboretum to meet with Sam for their first look. We found a small clearing amongst the trees that was the perfect spot. Once Diane and Sam had a few minutes together, we walked around the Arboretum and found great spots to take more photos.

They prepared letters ahead of time and read them to one another. I always LOVE when couples choose to do this because it really has so many benefits. It gives them an opportunity to express how they’re feeling on their wedding day, without any pressure of reading them in front of other people. This is often very emotional, and it creates incredibly powerful photos!

A ceremony surrounded by art

The Orange Art Gallery is one of my favourite Ottawa wedding venues. It’s the perfect setting for intimate weddings and smaller groups of people, and has such a unique feel to it. Although it’s not set up for large wedding guest lists or intricate sit-down dinner receptions, it’s great if you’re having a cocktail reception (without assigned seating). It also facilitates a great atmosphere for your guests to mingle! And bonus points, because the entire interior is curated with beautiful art, so adding your own decor is never an essential.

Tips for Planning your wedding at the Orange Art Gallery:

  1. Consider the time of year when the gallery has the best lighting. Since I’ve worked here throughout different times of the year, I’ve seen the way the light affects the space in various seasons. There are specific months that are better than others and provide incredible quality light (and it’s not necessarily the months you would guess).

  2. Think about how many guests you’re inviting. A space like Orange Art Gallery is cosy and intimate, so it’s ideal for a smaller guest count. I find 60 – 70 guests is the sweet spot for a venue like this one.

  3. It’s important to think about who will be catering your wedding. Hiring companies that know the space (and basement kitchen) is important, as well as businesses that do cocktail-style receptions.
