This story is as romantic as you can get. Jeff is Canadian, and Anne is French. They met in Canada while Anne was studying abroad in Ottawa. Jeff’s father was Anne’s landlord. So that was how they met. Fast forward almost a decade to their wedding day. And here we are. They wanted to have an intimate French castle wedding in Anne’s family’s chateau in the south of France. I was so lucky to come along on their adventure and document their wedding day.
THE CASTLE
The story of the castle is actually quite incredible on its own. Anne’s parents purchased an old castle in the south of France. And so, they restored it as a retirement project. Their passion for renovations is truly inspiring. And it is shown in all of the little details in the chateau. They restored the castle to a point where they can live year-round in it. Therefore, this made it an easy venue choice for Jeff and Anne. The castle has so much meaning to their whole family. Also because Anne’s sister previously got married in it. That and, the girls spent many of their teenage summers at the castle as well.
THE FRENCH CASTLE WEDDING
The wedding was beautifully styled. But when your wedding venue is an actual castle, how could it not be?! It was a beautiful sunny day. Anne’s mother picked fresh lavender and herbs from her garden. The lavender was used to create Anne’s wedding bouquet. It was so simple and elegant. Also, guests wore boutonnieres and fascinators. Both sides of the family were blended seamlessly through all of the traditions.
The meal was amazing! And the guests enjoyed the French wedding traditions. Everyone LOVED the champagne tower. And the dance floor was banging until the sun came up! So it truly was a perfect day.
It was such an honour being able to capture this wedding. And I have so much gratitude for both Jeff, Anne, and their families for being such amazing hosts.
ARE YOU HAVING A FRENCH CASTLE WEDDING?
And so if you’re getting married in France, do your research on how to make it legal. Also, I really love photographing couples in France. So feel free to reach out if you’re looking for a wedding photographer! Weddings in Europe have such a special place in my heart. This is especially true because Erik and I are planning our own wedding in France!
